Michelin is the world leader in the development of low rolling resistance tyres, the first of which was the Michelin Energy car tyre that was introduced in 1992. Since then the Company has further developed these types of tyres and now offers an extensive range for cars, vans and trucks.

Michelin’s low rolling resistance tyres are all identified by a ‘GREEN X’ marking on the sidewall. These tyres allow drivers to choose tyres which use advanced technology to reduce rolling resistance, thus improving fuel consumption and reducing CO2 emissions.

Excluding heavy commercial vehicle tyres, there are currently four Michelin tyre ranges which have ‘GREEN X’ marked tyres: the Energy Saver for smaller saloons and hatchbacks, the Primacy HP for larger higher performance cars, the Latitude Tour HP for road-going 4x4s and the Agilis van tyre.

With such an extensive range of low rolling resistance tyres there is something to suit a large percentage of vehicles and the environmental benefits are available with no other vehicle modifications needed – just fit and drive.

One of the most significant recent car tyre developments using this innovative technology is the Michelin Energy Saver, of which more than 23 million units have been sold since its European launch in early 2008.

These tyres have reduced overall fuel consumption by more than 65.6 million litres, the equivalent of 1.3 million full tanks of fuel. As a result, they have helped to reduce CO2 emissions by 131,000 tonnes, equal to the amount that would have been produced by 73,000 cars in one year.
