EDF Energy is leading the way on developing infrastructure for electric and electric hybrid vehicles, working with partners including Mercedes-Benz, Toyota and Elektromotive. EDF Energy has already part funded and installed over 50 electric charging posts in the UK, with more due to come live by the end of the year. The company has been using fully electric Smart cars and plug-in Hybrid Toyota Prius vehicles on trial in its fleet since 2008, and as part of the Technology Strategy Board trials, EDF Energy will be helping roll out wider trials with members of the public in 2010.As a founder member of the Energy Technologies Institute, EDF Energy is supporting the vehicle infrastructure and economics project for electric and hybrid vehicles. To help combat the company’s direct impact on the environment, EDF Energy has also committed to cut CO2 emissions from its transport fleet by 20% by 2012, as part of a wide ranging set of initiatives called ‘Our Climate Commitments’.
