Capital Fuel Challenge - Results Announced

The Capital Fuel Challenge witnessed Public and Private Sector Fleets competing for the TFL Capital Fleet of the Year Awards.

The Capital Fuel Challenge was set off from Horse Guards Parade and each vehicle entered was assigned a freight task in order to measure fuel efficiency. Divided into Public & Private Sectors, emphasis fell on which fuels were the most environmentally friendly, and offered the greatest economy.

Private Sector Fleets, Local Authorities and Central Government departments all took part alongside fifth gear presenter Jonny Smith and former F1 World Champion Damon Hill. The Drive through the streets of London, saw participants having to plan the most efficient route to four check points spread throughout the capital.

Visitors to the event were able to watch the fleet’s progress on the big screen, thanks to the innovative route tracking technology from TrakM8.

The results are now in, and below are the winners from the 2008 GreenFleet Capital Fuel Challenge:

Tfl Public Fleet of the Year

London Borough of Islington

City of Westminster (Westminster Transerv)

Royal Mail

Transport for London - London Streets

London Borough of Camden

Tfl Private Sector Fleet of the Year

CitySprint

BT OpenReach

Carillion Fleet Management

AEA Technology plc

GreenMotion

The above organisations have now made it through to the GreenFleet Awards finals at Twickenham, where they will take part in the 'G-Factor'. Each organisation will present the reasons why they should win the prestigious TfL Capital Fleet of the Year Awards to an expert panel, which includes representatives from Transport for London, The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership and The Freight Transport Association. The panel will then score each presentation, and the audience will get a chance to vote for each entry they think should win. The winner's of both awards will be announced at the Awards Dinner in the evening.

The GreenFleet Awards take place at Twickenham Rugby Stadium on Thursday 25th September.
