PRIVATE SECTOR FLEET OF THE YEAR
Winner: Whizzgo WhizzGo is the leading UK network ‘car club’ providing Pay-By-The-Hour cars in 10 cities throughout the UK. The cars provided include insurance, tax, fuel, maintenance and the Congestion Charge. The company advertises a cheaper, simpler and greener way to use a car whenever you want one.
To ensure the WhizzGo service is accessible to a maximum of people, users can register online or over the phone for £25 one-off fee and a £125 deposit.
The cars are parked in Car Club bays, dotted around the city, where people can pick-up and return them using a Smart card and a PIN number. Bookings are made either online or over the phone with billing sent-out via email and payments collected via direct debit.
All cars meet the car club standards and are less than four years old. Most importantly, Whizzgo ensures its fleet is green. It has around 130 Citroëns with stop start technology and has recently introduced the Toyota Prius as the first pay-by-the-hour hybrid in UK – reasons why Whizzgo is a worth recipient of the 2007 Private Sector Fleet of the Year award.
Runner-up: Green Tomato Cars Launched in March 2006, greentomatocars was the first environmentally friendly taxi company in the UK. The company’s fleet is made up exclusively of the most the Toyota Prius, and has recently added the Super Prius Plug in Hybrid Taxi.
