FLEET MANAGER OF THE YEAR (PUBLIC SECTOR)
Winner: Chris Rutherford - London Borough of Islington The London Borough of Islington is tackling climate change by considering every conceivable angle relating to their fleet.
By purchasing the latest vehicles such as the Modec commercial EV, the Smart EV, over fifty LPG vehicles, hybrid cars and running their larger vehicles on bio-diesel or liquefied natural gas, Islington is saving a significant amount of fuel and dramatically reducing their emissions.
The savings made across the entire fleet due to fuel reductions, congestion charge savings and raising their profile for grants has saved the borough an estimated £198,000 and 184 tonnes of CO2.
Fleet Manager Chris Rutherford has demonstrated a personal commitment to reducing CO2 in Islington's Fleet by his participation in seminars, workshops and other green events. Their success in the 2007 Green Fleet Capital fuel challenge (averaging 50+MPG over a 24 mile route through London) demonstrates the Borough’s effectiveness in promoting eco-driving.
