CAR MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR
Winner: Citroen Citroën produces many of the most fuel efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles available, last year selling almost 15% of all low CO2 emitting cars. The company believes that their availability, and affordability, is the most practical way of reducing transports environmental impact.
Citroën has a wide range of environmentally friendly innovations such as its Diesel Particulate Filter System, Stop & Start and Electronic Gearbox System (EGS). With a progressive downsizing of engines, and one of the largest ranges of fuel-efficient and low-emission vehicles available, Citroen makes a very strong case to be considered the UK's greenest car company.
n July this year, Citroën encouraged more people to buy cars with CO2 figures of 120g/km or less by pledging to pay the Road Fund licence fee. There are 22 models which fall into this category, including the Citroën C4 1.6 HDi, which, according to AutoExpress tests, has the lowest CO2 figure in the hatchback sector. Its cars are available from under £6,000 - making them an affordable proposition for the average motorist. The company also announced that its HDi powered vehicles can be run on up to 30% bio-diesel without modification, giving a further reduction in CO2 emissions. Citroën is awarded the GreenFleet Car Manufacturer of the Year award for its continuing moves to reduce the environmental impact of its vehicles.
Runner-up: Toyota Uptake of the world’s best selling Hybrid electric, the Prius, continues at a steady pace. The companys environmental policy forms part of a much wider vision of sustainable development. Building completely recyclable cars with zero emissions is Toyota's foremost challenge for years to come.
Commended: Honda The Honda Civic is a compact car bringing innovation and environmental consideration. For low benefit in kind liability and 'green' motoring, the Civic Hybrid stands out. |
