ALTERNATIVE FUEL SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR
Winner: Rix Petroleum Rix Biodiesel manufactures, blends and resells Biodiesel which can be used by itself as 100% biodiesel or in a mixture as a 95% mineral diesel/5% biodiesel blend. This is sold on over a hundred Rix Forecourt sites throughout the UK. A growing number of manufacturers endorse the use of biodiesel both in blend with mineral diesel and pure as a 100% biodiesel fuel, and Rix lists these on its website.
The company has recently introduced The 'GoGreen Card' which allows users to fill up with standard diesel and Rix BioBlend 5 - a combined 5% fuel from renewable sources with 95% conventional diesel. In combustion, this fuel delivers a reduction in hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions and can benefit engine performance by improving fuel economy and reducing wear and tear on engines, pumps and injectors. GoGreen card users are issued with regular certificates detailing the carbon saving achieved through its use.
Utilising used vegetable oils as a raw material to manufacture biodiesel reduces the need for the disposal of these oils to landfill sites, which further benefits the environment. The development of diesel engines is improving all the time, and performance levels now either meet or exceed petrol engines. Rix believes this will lead to users taking advantage of higher fuel economy and lower emissions produced by biodiesel.
