sponsored by Shell This award recognises the efforts of the car rental sector to offer lower CO2 models and incorporate a robust environmental policy into its present and future operations. 2009 shortlist Enterprise Rent-a-Car Greenmotion Hertz 2008 Winner: Enterprise Rent-a-Car Since launching its environmental platform in 2007, Enterprise has implemented a range of measures to improve its environmental performance. Worldwide, the company now offers more alternative-fuelled cars than any other rental firm, with 54,000 FlexFuel and 3,000 hybrids, including 136 Toyota Prius’ in the UK. Enterprise has undertaken a company-wide commitment to raising standards of environmental performance throughout its supply chain and branch operations. This includes printing all rental contracts on recycled paper from 2007 onwards, saving an estimated 2,730 mature trees (ten acres of forest) per annum; Adopting Thin Client computers rather than standalone PCs in all branches, which will reduce emissions by over 150 metric tonnes per annum in the UK and by 3,259 tonnes a year worldwide; Moving towards an innovative water recycling system in 10% of its branches, which will mean an annual saving of around 15.6 million litres of water; and; Low-energy light bulbs, timers on office equipment and other sustainable procurement practices at all 325 UK and Ireland branches. The company is also planting 50 million trees over the next fifty years, in every country in which it operates. The first tranche of 40,000 UK trees is currently being planted at Loch Katrine in Scotland.
