The IT Innovation award examines the latest advancements in fleet technology, including fleet management software, telematics, route tracking and other IT related transport technology.

2009 Winner: CMS Supatrak
CMS SupaTrak began an extensive research and development project in 2008 to deliver a solution to market that would be able to help business owners and fleet managers to reduce their vehicles’ fuel costs and carbon emissions. After months of thorough industry research and development, CMS SupaTrak launched EcoTrak fuel saving technology, a driver management tool which allows fleet managers to monitor and manage their drivers’ behaviours in real time, using CANbus technology.

By identifying drivers who practice less efficient driving behaviours in certain areas (such as miles per gallon, “green band” driving, engine idling, use of cruise control, over revving and speeding) fleet managers can implement remedial training where necessary and re-educate these drivers to modify their performance to deliver a more efficient driving style. As a result, fuel costs can be significantly reduced and vehicle carbon emissions lowered.

In addition to EcoTrak, CMS SupaTrak also introduced EcoTrak+ economy engine remapping in 2008, which works by simply remapping the vehicle’s engine management software with a brand new economy tuned prioritised file, underwritten by a leading insurance company, without affecting the warranty.  By economy remapping the vehicle’s ECU, the vehicle’s software can be optimised, which enables the delivery of consistent and sustainable savings on fuel.

Judges comments: “The impressive customer case studies confirm the ability of the CMS Supatrak solution to deliver targeting information that focuses management attention on those areas where the greatest operating cost reductions can be achieved. The cost savings and carbon dioxide reductions reported are indeed impressive.”
