Fleet Car Manufacturer of the Year
sponsored by Garmin
New for 2009, this category will be presented to the car manufacturer that has improved CO2 ratings of its standard fleet offerings and expanded the range of lower CO2 models and alternatively fueled options available to fleet customers.

2009 Winner: BMW
Since 2000 BMW Group has invested more than £1 billion in its UK operations. As well as a total contribution to UK GDP of over £2.5 billion and 55,000 jobs supported, the company is working hard to limit the operations environmental impact, and is committed to dealing with resources in a sustainable and responsible manner.

All manufacturing plants are certified to environmental standards ISO14001. For the fourth year in a row BMW leads its sector in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, and independent research by www.cleangreencars.co.uk found BMW to have the lowest average CO2 emissions of any premium car maker for the second year in a row, with BMW at 159.36g/km and MINI at 131.43g/km.

EfficientDynamics technologies allow BMW to offer models that return impressive fuel economy and lower emissions without compromising performance. In April the sub 160g/km range was 125 models and will reach 190 by October. EfficientDynamics is not restricted to a few highly economical models, and in every market segment the respective models offer class-leading emissions figures.

Emerging as a fleet favourite is the MINI Cooper D, which, with the help of MINIMALISM, emits just 104g/km and returns 72.4mpg. It was named the ‘Best Residual Value Star’ at the 2009 Fleet News Awards.

Judges comments: “..BMW seem to have taken an axe to the carbon dioxide emissions from their range with the number of vehicles delivering less than 160 g/km increasing by 52% during a six month period. In the highly competitive and technologically challenging premium sector, this is a real achievement...”
