| Driver Training Company of the Year |
|
Presented to the Driver Training organisation that has been successful in promoting and diversifying its green driving instruction courses, and has incorporated fuel economy training modules into other driver awareness programmes it offers.
Winner: DriveSense DriveSense is the driver training arm of the Osbourne Purdie Group. The company has been working with the Government's ACT ON CO2 campaign to deliver smarter driving courses as part of the 'People Power' challenge. This took place in Birmingham, Newcastle and Portsmouth and encouraged ten households in each city to reduce their energy usage with the help of energy saving experts. As part of the challenge, 12 of the participants received a 50 minute lesson by DriveSense to learn new 'smarter driving' techniques. During the lesson the average fuel saving achieved by participants was 20.5 percent – equivalent to saving over two month's fuel in a year and a greater saving than the eight percent national fuel saving assumption based on trials undertaken by the Driving Standards Agency. DriveSense has seen significant growth over recent years due to the changes under Health and Safety and Duty of Care laws. The company’s ‘Driving for Life’ programmes can be implemented easily and can prove to be cost effective. The initial Driver Risk Assessment and E-Learning programmes are delivered on-line via a secure website, where full management reporting identifies drivers into low, medium or high-risk categories. This helps to determine those employees requiring additional support. The Green Driving module teaches drivers a range of tips and techniques on how to acheive greater fuel efficiency, with before and after measurements of MPG, using the vehicles trip computer, analysed to evaluate its effectiveness. Motor industry clients include Opel, Toyota and Volkswagen. In August this year, it was announced that DriveSense has won a major contract with the Energy Saving Trust to deliver the ‘Smarter Driving’ programme, aimed at delivering 26,000 lessons to company employees of any business by April 2010. The lessons, of which a minimum of 24 must be booked, are available to all employees of a company regardless as to whether or not they drive on business.
